Client Raises Bucks for Muscular Dystrophy

Peter Feinstein, president and CEO of Phoenix-based ad agency Higher Power Marketing, took part in the Muscular Dystrophy Association’s Desert Ridge 2013 Lock-Up on Feb. 28 and raised $1,500 to help fund research, clinics and accessible summer camps for people affected by neuromuscular diseases.
For the fundraiser, business and community leaders agreed to be “put behind bars,” where they tapped their vendors, co-workers, family and friends for donations toward their “bail.” In reality, they were allowed weeks to raise money, so that when the event rolled around, they were free to network with other participants and meet people who benefit from MDA fundraising. According to the MDA, $1,000 is enough to help two people with repairs to medical equipment for a year.
This is the first year Feinstein has participated in the MDA Lock-Up. For the local event, which was held at the Rock Bottom Restaurant & Brewery in northern Phoenix, 53 “jailbirds” raised a total of $53,700 for the MDA. The money raised will go to Phoenix-area MDA programs such as:
- MDA Summer Camp, where kids get together for a week of barrier-free play and renew friendships from previous summers;
- an MDA Clinic at St. Joseph’s Hospital;
- an MDA Clinic at Phoenix Children’s Hospital; and
- support groups for families and caregivers.
“I have friends whose families have been affected by muscular dystrophy,” Feinstein said. “The camp that the MDA sends these kids to enlivens their spirits and gives them a sense of inner worth that they often forget, or feel is lacking due their physical limitations.”
With Feinstein’s participation, MDA joins the American Cancer Society, the ALS Foundation and The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) among the charitable organizations supported by HPM.
Feinstein’s agency provides customized direct-response (DR) and per-inquiry (PI) media solutions that deliver cost-effective results and predictable success. It delivers access to the widest range of advertising solutions, reaching hundreds of millions of Americans via more than 8,000 radio stations, more than 600 TV stations and all national TV networks.
