Nominations are out for the 2013 Screen Actors Guild and Golden Globe awards, and they include several folks from films I’ve reviewed recently.
Both organizations nominated John Hawkes for best actor and Helen Hunt for best supporting actress based upon their performances in The Sessions.
Javier Bardem earned a supporting actor SAG nomination for playing over-the-top villain Raoul Silva in Skyfall – a rare honor for a James Bond movie. Skyfall also received a Golden Globe nomination for best original song and a SAG nod for outstanding action performance by a stunt ensemble.
Maggie Smith received a Golden Globe nomination for best actress in a comedy or musical for her work in Quartet, Dustin Hoffman’s directorial debut. Smith also earned SAG supporting actress and ensemble nods for her work in The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, and both organizations nominated her for TV’s Downton Abbey.
Dame Judi Dench, who appeared with Bardem in Skyfall and Smith in The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, was honored by both organizations for her work in the latter. She received a Globe nomination for best actress in a comedy or musical and is included in a SAG nomination for the Hotel cast. The film received a Globe nomination for best drama.
